HighQuest II: His Calling
Christ’s Great Commission is to make disciples. If that is what we are to be and do, then we need clarity regarding what does or does not qualify as marks of a disciple of Christ. Discipleship, we’ll discover, is not a course to be completed; rather a life-long pursuit of knowing and obeying Christ. The discipleship qualities Jesus identified are not a check list to be accomplished; they are indicators of the path we are to follow. Discipleship is not a function of personality, gifting, or abilities but it is the result of choosing to submissively and faithfully follow Christ.
The purpose of this unit of HighQuest is to follow Christ through the Gospel records and discover what he means by discipleship. In HighQuest: His Calling, you will focus on five definitive passages where Jesus identified the marks of his disciples.
• Luke 6:40
Whole life transformation
• Luke 14:26
Sacrificial allegiance
• John 8:31-32
Faithful obedience
• John 13:34-35 Servant love
• John 15:8
Spiritual fruitfulness
